ETYP2Salenstein, Swiss — The 5th Europe Tibetan Youth Platform (ETYP ) concluded in Salenstein, Switzerland, on Sunday, November 5, 2017. The conference is joined by over 40 young participants from 6 different countries.

The ETYP is an initiative organized by the Tibetan Youth Association in Europe (TYAE). The aim of the weekend-long gathering is to actively engage young Tibetans in the modeling of our future society.

The ETYP encourages independent thinking and a socio-political initiative in young people and facilitates the learning of crucial social and professional skills. Furthermore the platform offers the opportunity to form friendships and make contacts across and beyond frontiers.

The program include various panels, workshops and discussions about the Tibetan identity, Tibetan democracy, Tibetan society as well as the Tibetan movement. The main goal of the program is to learn, discuss with each other and develop innovative ideas and effective measures to advance the Tibetan movement and society. On Sunday, the participants of the ETYP also passed resolutions on the above-mentioned subjects.

"The TYAE is thrilled to welcome numerous participants from Austria, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway and Switzerland. On the occasion of ETYP, we have invited a wide range of diverse guest speakers from across the globe. We are elated to host internationally known personalities along with new and emerging voices from the modern society," said Tenzin Dechen Yundung, Co-President of the TYAE.

During the opening ceremony guest speaker, Students for a Free Tibet executive director and Chitue Dorjee Tseten addressed the participants in his keynote speech: "One thing the Chinese government is scared of is the new generation of Tibetans. We, the youth, have the strength and the power to resist the Chinese dictatorship."

In April 2010, the TYAE successfully launched the first ETYP "We Are Tibet" in Zurich. It has been a great honor when His Holiness the Dalai Lama addressed the first gathering in person. In his speech His Holiness praised the convening of the first ETYP and called all the young Tibetans to build their own political opinion in the process of democratization.

Until today, hundreds of young Tibetans from all corners of Europe have attended the past four European Tibetan Youth Platforms that took place in Switzerland, Belgium and France.
