Four Tibetan girls to compete in Miss Tibet pageant 2009

Dharamshala: Lobsang Wangyal, director of Miss Tibet held a press conference to introduce the four Miss Tibet candidates in the Miss Tibet pageant 2009, today begins one week of training for each of the contestant.  This year, the pageant will promote the message "thank you India for 50 years of help and hospitality.”  Mr. Wangyal said "it is an opportunity to celebrate 50 years of Tibet on the world stage.  The spirit of celebration is high, but we pay homage and salute to those brave Tibetans who have laid down their lives for their belief in freedom, justice, and love for Tibet."

World Anti-child Labor Day, "fighting for our freedom and rights while taking away others”

Dharamshala: In Tibet, the word for servant translates very nearly to the word for slave, and child labors working in the Tibetan community are not that different from slaves.  Trinley Gyatso is the India representative for Swiss-Tibetan organization, Human Steps.  Human Steps currently works in the Tibetan community raising awareness of Indian child labor laws and international conventions against the practice.   June 12 of this year is world child labor day, Mr. Gyatso hopes that it will help him to expose the practice child labor in the Tibetan community. We are sorry we couldn't make it; 10 Tibetans who tried to return Tibet

Dharamshala: 10 monks from the 3 largest monasteries in southern India conceived and attempted to carry out a plan that would lead them over the world’s highest mountain range back to Tibet, their movement was called “return to Tibet movement.” The ten monks made it as far as Samdo, near Manali, northern India before they were detained for three days before being turned back by Indian police. Dharamsala: A press conference was held at the headquarters of the Tibetan Parliament in Exile in Dharamsala, at 3 p.m. today. Members of the Tibetan Parliament, including the deputy speaker and his staff, warmly welcomed the spokesperson of the Himachal Pradesh Parliament (Vidhan Sabha, H.P.) Shri. Tulsi Ram upon his arrival at the headquarters of the Tibetan Parliament in Exile.

Panchen Lama's detention is "a violation of basic human rights"

Dharamsala: The Central Tibetan Women’s Association convened a panel discussion on the 14th anniversary of the abduction of Tibet’s 11th Panchen Lama on 17 May, 2009. The speakers present shed light on a possible course of action to bring about an effective and strategic means to secure the release of the imprisoned 11th Panchen Lama. The forum was attended by Tibetan intellectuals and nearly one-hundred spectators, including foreigners, spokespeople for local NGOs and representatives of the Tibetan, Indian and European media.
