Dharamshala: His Holiness the Dalai Lama returns from Europe yesterday with an honorary citizenship from French capital Paris.  He has been honored in this way in cities and countries thought the western world, but the holy man remains a refugee of his own country.  The Chinese government government expressed distant for the honors given to the stateless monk.  Actions and statements made by both sides suggest a stalemate in the negotiation process.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry yesterday condemned Paris for meeting with the Tibetan spiritual leader. "The behavior ... can only create serious damage to cooperation between Paris and relevant cities in China and has created grave interference in relations between China and France," a statement said.

Zhao Junjie, an expert in European studies with the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) said The Socialist Mayer of Paris Bertrad Delanoe honored His Holiness the Dalai Lama in this way to "intensify the competition with the opposite party" and "played the political stunt to its full", risking hurting Chinese people's feelings.

His Holiness has said on many occasions that it is not the Chinese people that he is against, it is the Chinese government that has made his country into “hell on earth.” He explains that his faith in Chinese people "is never shaken."

This week in Europe, the mentor for diplomacy and global engagement, His Holiness the Dalai Lama said "They are awaiting my death. ... I have little hope of reaching a negotiated solution with the Chinese government. My trust in that government is very thin because the whole communist political system is based on lies and hypocrisy"
