The spiritual and political leader of Tibet, His Holiness the Dalai Lama today arrived Leh, the cpital of Ladhak to a rousing welcome, with Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah himself driving the spiritual leader in an official vehicle from the airport to his palace here.

After receiving the spiritual leader at Bakula Airport here, Abdullah drove His Holiness the Dalai Lama from the airport to his summer palace at Choglamsar.

In a conversation with the Chief Minister, the spiritual leader said, he had a very friendly relationship with late Sheikh Abdullah and Dr Farooq Abdullah, the grandfather and father of the Chief Minister. He said the J&K State has a very long and bright future under the young and dynamic leadership of Abdullah.

Large crowds of locals, including Budhists, Muslims and Hindus enthusiastically gave a rousing welcome to His Holiness the Dalai Lama en-route to the palace.

Soon after reaching his palace, His Holiness the Dalai Lama, who is on a nearly 20-day tour of Ladakh, extended his thanks to the chief minister.

His Holiness will stay in Ladakh till 29 August during which he will give Buddhist teachings and confer initiations in Leh and Zanskar.
