Tibet-Swiss-parliamentary-2014Zurich , 11 June 2014 - A delegation of Tibetan Parliament in exile receives warm welcome in the City Parliament of Zurich, 11 June 2014.

According to a report from the delegation, the Tibetan parliamentary group received by Mrs. Dorothea Frei, Speaker of the City Parliament of Zurich. The TPIE delegation is led by Deputy Speaker Khenpo Sonam Tenphel and consists of the TPIE members Mr. Karma Choephel, Mr. Dawa Phunkyi, Mr. Jamyang Soepa and Mr. Wangpo Tethong.

Mrs. Dorothea Frei took them on a 30 minutes’ tour in the ancient building explaining the historic background and the economic and political structure of Switzerland and Zurich.

 In their discussions, the group covered a wide range of issues from women’s rights to the situation of Tibetans living in the Zurich area.

Khenpo Sonam Tenphel explained to her the reason for the mission, thanked her on behalf of the Tibetan people, handed over various documents regarding the dramatic situation in Tibet and presented two white scurfs (Khataks) to the hosts.

At the beginning of the session, in a amazing show of solidarity, she and Mr. Bartholdi put on the Khataks and honored the members of the Tibetan Parliament in Exile with a heartfelt welcome.

The TPIE delegation also visited visiting Berne the next day and met Mrs. Tiana Moser and Mr. Martin Näf members of the Multiparty Tibet Group in the Swiss Parliament.

It said that International Campaign for Tibet Europe (ICT Europe) invited the TPIE delegation to meet with their counterparts in Europe and discuss the grave situation in Tibet.

The mission to Estonia, Poland, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Austria and Switzerland included meetings on parliamentary and government level, university lectures and public talks.
