Paris, France : - Tibetans and supporters, including members of French Parliament on 3 July observed His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama's 79th birthday at the French Senate in Paris, the capital of France.
The Paris based Bureau du Tibet organised jointly with the Tibet Group in the French Senate a reception to mark the 79th birthday of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. The event was attended by nearly 100 persons representing various Tibet support groups and supporters, including members of French Senate.
Mr Ngodup Dorjee, the Representative of His Holiness the Dalai Lama while thanking the supporters for their continued support underscored the importance of inculcating in one's lives the teachings of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, to become a warm-hearted human being as described by His Holiness the Dalai Lama himself the best birthday gift.
Mr Jean-Francois Humbert, the President of the Senate Tibet Group in his opening address welcomed the invitees and underlined the importance of celebrating His Holiness the Dalai Lama's birthday in the Senate significant in terms of the support that transcends political party affiliations for the just cause of Tibet.
He reiterated Group's continued support in spite of the changes that will take place in future. Mr Humbert said that he will take initiative to continue the Tibet Inter-group in the newly elected European parliament and will continue to work for the cause of Tibet.
'The growing supporters number of French people will continue to stand for the rights and freedoms of the people of Tibet in the future, as we consider Tibet is as an important issue,' said Mr Humbert.
Senator Andre Gattolin, Mr. Jean-Francois Humbert and former Senator, Deputy in the French National Assembly Mr. Louis de Broissia and Benjamin Ismail, head of RSF's Asia Pacific desk were other dignitaries who attended the reception.
The Tibetan Community of France on 6 July 2014 organised a formal ceremony of His Holiness the Dalai Lama's 79th birthday celebration.
"Over thousand Tibetans and supporters have gathered at the Buddhist Pagoda of Bois de Vincenne to celebrate His Holiness' birthday. Tibetans performed our traditional dances, songs, and operas," Mr Tenzin Lhudup, general secretary of Tibet Community in France and education director of the Paris based Palyon School for Tibetans.
The French Parliamentary Group for Tibet has currently 35 members from the French Parliament which made up of two chambers, the National Assembly and the Senate. After several meetings with Tibetan political and community leaders, and former political prisoners in Dharamshala, the support group become strong voice for Tibet in the Parliament and and call for stronger political support since its establishment in June 1990.
