US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Thursday named a new special coordinator for Tibet issues who will coordinate the US government's policies, programs and projects on Tibetan issues and promote dialogue between China and representatives of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. The appointment of the Special Coordinator for Tibetan Issues is mandated by the Tibetan Policy Act of 2002 and is an indication of the United States' commitment to a negotiated resolution on Tibet that preserves the distinct religious, cultural and linguistic heritage of the Tibetan people.

The European Parliament has been urged by His Holiness the Dalai Lama's representative in Brussels to assist the Tibetans in their efforts to achieve meaningful autonomy and improved rights in Tibet, the EU's news bulletin The Parliament reported on September 30th.

Sharing the stage with Sarah McLachlan, Mia Farrow, Jane Goodall, and other celebrity musicians, actors, and activists, His Holiness the Dalai Lama was greeted by 16,000 cheering Canadian youths at yesterday's We Day celebration in Vancouver, an event sponsored by Free the Children charity.

The international press freedom organization Reporters Without Borders announced today that "[Chinese] Government security paranoia in the run-up to the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the proclamation of the People's Republic of China on 1 October has led to a reinforcement of online censorship and abusive behaviour towards foreign journalists," They added that "A case of police brutality towards three foreign journalists was particularly unacceptable."

Dharamshala: The Senior Envoy of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Lodri Gyaltsen Gyari, said US President Barack Obama will meet His Holiness after Obama’s return from China. The US official delegation, who visited Dharamshala recently, relayed the invitation to His Holiness for a visit to the White House to talk about Tibet issues.
