Taipei: Typhoon Marakot hit Taiwan last week, causing seven days of natural disasters and costing hundreds of lives. The Tibet Religious Foundation of His Holiness the Dalai Lama in Taipei organized a special prayer ceremony this morning for the victims of Typhoon—those who lost their lives and those still missing. The ceremony was led by Tibetan monks, including the former abbot of the Sera Jay monastery. Many Taiwanese Buddhist followers and all staff members of the Tibet Religious Foundation attended the ceremony.

Dharamshala: Tibetan spiritual leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama on Wednesday urged Myanmar to free 64-year-old democracy leader and Nobel laureate Aung San Suu Kyi who has been detained for nearly 14 of the last 20 years, mostly under house arrest.

The spiritual and political leader of Tibet, His Holiness the Dalai Lama today arrived Leh, the cpital of Ladhak to a rousing welcome, with Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah himself driving the spiritual leader in an official vehicle from the airport to his palace here.

Taipei: Mrs. Tian Qiu Jin (DPP Legislator) and His Holiness the Dalai Lama are currently participating in an international seminar on Tibetan and Chinese relations, hosted by the International Fellowship of Reconciliation (IFOR) in Geneva, Switzerland. Mrs. Tian Qiu Jin has personally invited the Dalai Lama to visit Taiwan's Orchid Island, where native Tao people wish to receive his blessing.

Taipei: Rescue workers on 12 August began a massive searching for the hundreds of people feared buried in landslips in Taiwan and south-eastern China following two days of devastation wrought by the natural disaster, "Morakot" dumped 83 inches (2.1 meters) of rain on parts of the island, unleashing the worst flooding there in half a century.

Tibet's political and spiritual leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama Yesterday said, China-Tibet "talks did not yield any tangible results," after eight rounds of talks took place between Tibetan and Chinese envoys. His Holiness read his statement when he was speaking to a gathering of more than 100 Tibetan and Chinese intellectuals in Geneva, "A lack of political will on the part of the Chinese Central Government to address the issue of Tibet in a sincere and realistic way."

His Holiness the Dalai Lama embarked on a one-week trip to Switzerland Monday to deliver some serious lectures on Buddhism. This is his 21st visit to the country, and on this trip he will be addressing an estimated audience of 12,000 followers in the French-speaking city of Lausanne.
