New Delhi — The 1st' International Conference on ‘Building Freedom. Democracy and Peace in Asia' held from May 11 - May 12, 2018 at the India International Center in New Delhi India. The conference has brought together members of the civil society, activists, NGO's and youth organisations who gathered to discuss strategies to promote and build freedom, democracy and peace in the Asian region.

Besides the Chief Guest Shri Ashok Saiianhar (President, Institute of Global Studies, Diplomat/Former lndian Ambassador to Sweden, Kazakhstan and Latvia) speakers include Gandhian Rajiv Vora, Namrata Hasija from the Center for China Analysis and Strategy as well as representatives from other Asian Nations.

Members from twelve Asian countries including Taiwan, Mongolia, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Myanmar, Thailand, South Korea, Philippines, Japan, Nepal, India and Tibet participated in this historic two-day conference, said organizers of the conference.

The President of Tibetan Youth Congress Tenzing Jigme said that ‘now more than ever, there is a real need for us to build a coalition of like minded nations and groups to face the challenges that we have in common’. There is an intimate connection between democratic values and the fundamental values of human goodness.'

'Where there is democracy there is a greater possibility for the citizens of the country to express their basic human qualities, and where these basic human qualities prevail, there is also a greater scope for strengthening democracy,' he said, adding: 'We believe that we must invest in building Freedom, Democracy and Peace in Asia to resolve challenges facing Asian nations in the region.'

The conference, “Building Freedom, Democracy and Peace in Asia", aspires to cultivate these characteristics within Asian nations. The conference seeks to strengthen relationships and networks among civil society organizations, media practitioners, politicians, and other champions of democracy. Conference sessions and speakers also highlighted challenges faced by groups, best practices in addressing them, and ideas for promoting change within society.
