US President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping met at the Filoli estate in Woodside, California, on November 15, 2023. They discussed a wide range of issues, including global challenges, war, the climate crisis, the economy, trade and human rights in China.
After the four-hour meeting, the White house released a statement about their meeting and it stated, "President Biden underscored the universality of human rights and the responsibility of all nations to respect their international human rights commitments. He raised concerns regarding PRC human rights abuses, including in Xinjiang, Tibet, and Hong Kong."
When Xi Jinping arrived in the United States, large-scale protests were held by Tibetans, Hong Kongers, Uyghurs and Chinese near the APEC meeting centre against him. A flight carrying a banner flew over the Moscone Centre, the site of the APEC summit, reading: "End of the CCP, freedom for China, free Hong Kong, free Tibet, free Uyghur".
Tsela Zoksang, a 20-year-old Tibetan student and activist, climbed the flagpole outside the Hyatt Regency hotel and waved the Tibetan national flag as Xi Jinping prepared to host a dinner with the world's top business CEOs. She declared that "carrying the Tibetan flag is punishable by extrajudicial disappearance in Tibet and in China."
"Under X's rule we have witnessed the establishment of a residential school system that has ripped one million Tibetan children from their families, and the mass collection of DNA from Tibetan monks, nuns, and children. Xi Jinping now faces serious internal challenges to his power, and that's why our message is that Xi's time as the dictator of China is up. It's time for a new era of freedom for all people suffering under the CCP's rule," said Tsela, member of Students for a Free Tibet.
San Francisco Regional Tibetan Youth Congress (SFRTYC), Student's for a Free Tibet Bay Area (SFT Bay Area), Bay Area Friends of Tibet (BayFot) along with many other cross movement groups (Uyghurs, Hong Kongers, Taiwanese, Southern Mongolians, Chinese dissents and our allies) organised a massive protest against Xi Jinping, on November 15, 2023, in front of the Chinese Consulate in San Francisco, for his government's repressive policies in these occupied countries such as Tibet, East Turkestan and Hong Kong and the serious human rights violations committed by the Chinese government against their people.
