Dharamshala — In accordance with His Holiness the Dalai Lama's upcoming birthday, the Office of Tibet and International Campaign for Tibet jointly hosted a reception at the US Capitol Building on June 27th.
The reception was addressed by House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, Representatives Jim Sensenbrenner, Jim McGovern, Ros Lehtinen and well known actor and Tibet activist, Richard Gere.
Tibetan government representative Penpa Tsering and ICT president Matteo Mecacci welcomed the members to the reception, including more than a dozen members of Congress and more that 300 other invited guests.
Gere also led a delegation on the 27th that met with six members of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Congressman Harold Rogers, Chairman of the House Appropriations Committee and Congresswomen Nita Lowey and Betty McCollum, ranking committee members. The Appropriations Committee members assured that they will support putting the Tibet support programs back on track.
The occassion was in celebration of His Holiness the Dalai Lama's 82nd birthday on July 6, 2017.
