Delhi — Tibetan handicrafts are now recognised as a distinct artistic expression in the world and fully reflect the knowledge of the Tibetan people. They range from simple clothing accessories to exquisite and reasonably priced handicrafts. At Majnu-Ka-Tilla, you can see artisans and artists displaying their handicrafts from all over Tibet and Nepal, and experience the distinctive cultural elements of the many Tibetan regions.

The geographical and climatic characteristics of Tibet have led to the development of a distinct culture. The Himalayan region has been influenced by the civilisations of China, India and Nepal, but its remoteness and solitude have allowed it to retain indigenous influences and foster the development of its own culture.

Tibetan culture has been considerably influenced by Tibetan Buddhism. Arts and literatures were introduced by Buddhist missionaries. Tibetan art is a highly spiritual type of religious art. It covers a wide range of artworks, including paintings, statues, ritual objects, coins, decorations and furniture.

Tibetan Rugs or Carpet

Tibetan carpet making is an ancient art and craft in Tibetan culture. Interior designers choose Tibetan rugs, which differ significantly from conventional hand-knotted Persian rugs. Tibetan rugs are often prized by collectors or designers because they are hand-knotted from the wool of sheep that graze in the hills of Tibet. Yellows and greys are probably the most popular shades for Tibetan rugs. Tibetan wool has a high lanolin content and, when woven, has one of the softest textures your feet can feel. The virgin wool of Tibetan highland sheep is usually used to make these rugs. Tibetans use rugs for almost all domestic purposes, including horse saddles, wall hangings and floors.

Ornaments

Tibetan ornaments seem to be imbued with a magical quality by nature, as all materials are indigenous to Tibet and carry the charm of this sacred place. Tibetan ornaments have a long history and are unique. They are characterised by a direct and unrestricted theme, a variety of shapes and patterns, and dazzling hues, which inspire high fashion.

Jewelry

Your attention will be captured by a wide selection of attractive Tibetan jewelry, including rings, bracelets, and necklaces made from red and yellow Tibetan coral, Tibetan carnelian, Tibetan silver, Tibetan copper, turquoise, and other natural materials. A wild and fashionable bracelet or necklace can be created and by fusing together a number of natural stones, corals, and others.
