Dharamshala — Khenpo Sonam Tenphel, Speaker of the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile, and Sikyong Penpa Tsering of the Central Tibetan Administration extended their sincere congratulations to Sushila Karki on her appointment as interim Prime Minister of Nepal. Sikyong also spoke on the difficulties faced by exiled Tibetans in Nepal and expressed hope that her leadership would bring positive changes for Tibetans in the country.

Khenpo Sonam Tenphel, Speaker of the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile, extended his sincere congratulations to Sushila Karki, Interim Prime Minister of Nepal, on September 15, 2025, following her appointment to the position on September 12, 2025. The Speaker wrote, "On behalf of the 17th Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile and Tibetans around the world, I extend our warmest congratulations on your appointment as the Prime Minister of Nepal. This appointment reflects the confidence and trust placed in your leadership and vision by the people of Nepal."

The Speaker wrote, "Tibet and Nepal share centuries-old spiritual, cultural and historical relationship, founded on mutual respect and deep-rooted ties. We take this moment to express our sincere gratitude to the Government and people of Nepal for their kindness and generosity in hosting and rehabilitating the Tibetan community over the past decades. Your support has allowed Tibetans in Nepal to preserve their culture and traditions while contributing positively to the wider society."

"We wish you every success in all your endeavours in fulfilling the aspirations of the people of Nepal and in your continued service to the nation," concluded the Speaker.

On September 16, 2025, Sikyong Penpa Tsering also extended congratulations to Sushila Karki on her appointment as interim Prime Minister of the Republic of Nepal. Sikyong wrote,"For Tibetans inside and outside, your historic appointment as the first interim Prime Minister of the Republic of Nepal at this crucial juncture of the Nepalese nation and its people is both a rejoicing moment and a hope for a better future for all people in Nepal." He also mentioned the sacrifices of the Nepalese people, particularly the contributions made during the Gen-Z revolution.

Sikyong wrote,"His Holiness the Dalai Lama, in his message, highlighted the close relationship between the Nepalese and Tibetans and expressed gratitude to the government and people of Nepal for providing facilities for the rehabilitation of Tibetan refugees since 1959. I wish to reiterate the importance of our historical relationship. However, I wish to stress the situation of the Tibetans who sought refuge in Nepal due to the forceful Chinese occupation of Tibet and the inhuman persecution of Tibetans in Tibet and who have to undergo existential challenges in Nepal. All our efforts over the years have been in vain, but your leadership brings us hope."

"I am sure under your leadership and the new framework, there will be a reprieve for Tibetan refugees in Nepal. We assure you that the Tibetan people will positively participate in the development of the country," Sikyong added.

"Again, we wish you the very best in meeting all the immediate challenges and in setting Nepal on the course of prosperity, opening a new chapter in the history of Nepal,” Sikyong concluded.
