New Delhi — When Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi landed in New Delhi on Monday, Tibetan activists from the Tibetan Youth Congress immediately staged a strong protest against Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi's visit to India and called on China to end the cultural genocide in Tibet and cease interfering in the reincarnation of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama of Tibet.

On August 18, 2025, ten Tibetan activists from the Tibetan Youth Congress (TYC), led by TYC Vice President Tashi Dhargyal, staged a strong protest in front of the Chinese Embassy in New Delhi, to oppose Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi's visit to India.

The activists organised the protest immediately after Wang Yi landed in India at 4 p.m. and rushed toward the Chinese embassy shouting slogans such as “Free Tibet,” “Stop the genocide in Tibet,” “China, get out of Tibet now,” “Stop torture in Tibet,” and “Stop the killing in Tibet.” After the protest, the Tibetan activists were detained by Indian police and released later that night.

Gonpo Dhondup, President of the TYC, told Tibet Post : “We call on the Chinese Communist Party and Wang Yi to end the cultural genocide in Tibet, halt interference in the reincarnation of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama of Tibet, and urge Indian leaders to be wary of their Chinese counterparts, who are not trustworthy individuals.”

TYC also released a statement and it states, "While Chinese officials engage in diplomacy in a free country, Tibetans continue to suffer inhuman torture and persecution under China's authoritarian rule. Over one million Tibetan children, some as young as four, have been forcibly separated from their families and enrolled in colonial-style boarding schools. In these institutions, they are cut off from Tibetan language and cultural curriculum, as a part of deliberate strategy to indoctrinate them and sever their connection to their Tibetan heritage."

The Tibetan organisation explains, "This policy of assimilation extends to all facets of Tibetan life. Monastic institutions are under strict control, and monks under the age of 18 are forcibly moved to state-run boarding schools. Furthermore, monasteries are forbidden from holding voluntary Tibetan language classes for students during school holidays, further restricting access to their own culture and language."

Tibetan activists said while describing the current situation in Tibet,"Freedom of expression in Tibet is non-existent. Recently, two Tibetan singers, Assang and Pelkyong, were detained merely for performing a song that expressed longing and reverence for His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama. They are among the countless unknown Tibetans imprisoned simply for showing loyalty to their spiritual leader. Under the guise of "development" and "poverty alleviation," the Chinese government continues to forcibly resettle Tibetan nomads and farmers. This policy displaces Tibetans from their ancestral lands, destroys their traditional way of life, and moves them into concrete settlements designed for easier surveillance and control, making them dependent on state subsidies."

The TYC calls on the Chinese government to respect the Buddhist system of reincarnation and said, "His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama has unequivocally stated that the recognition of his reincarnation rests solely with the Gadhen Phodrang Trust, sending a clear message to the Chinese Communist Regime that they have no authority to interfere in this sacred Tibetan Buddhist tradition. It is hypocritical for an atheist and authoritarian regime, known for destroying monasteries and persecuting monks and nuns, to claim a role in recognizing a religious leader. Therefore, we vehemently objects to Beijing's interference in the sacred religious tradition of reincarnation. Recent statements from Chinese officials claiming the government has the "final say" are a direct affront to Tibetan Buddhism. The sole authority for recognising the reincarnation of His Holiness the Dalai Lama lies with the Gaden Phodrang Trust."

"The Tibetan Youth Congress cautions Indian leaders to be wary of the Chinese government's history of broken promises. China's expansionist ambitions, evidenced by continued incursions along the northern borders, pose a direct threat to India's security. Furthermore, the construction of world's largest hydropower dam on Brahmaputra River will create a significant threat to India and other downstream countries," the Tibetan activists from TYC said.

"The TYC asserts that a free Tibet is essential for the long-term security of India. Therefore, we urges Indian leaders to raise the critical issue of Tibet during their discussions with the Chinese Foreign Minister," the Tibetan activists urged.

The Tibetan Youth Congress call on the Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and demand to him and the Chinese government:

1. Immediately halt the colonial-style boarding school system and end the policies driving cultural genocide in Tibet.
2. Unconditionally release all Tibetan political prisoners, including Gedhun Choekyi Nyima, the 11th Panchen Lama, who was abducted by the CCP 30 years ago and whose whereabouts remain unknown.

TYC activists also staged protests with banners at several locations in New Delhi, from Wang Yi's residence to the venue of his meeting at Hyderabad House, on the morning of August 19, 2025.

More than 25 Tibetan ctivists from the Tibetan Youth Congress protested outside Hyderabad House in New Delhi at 11:30 a.m. on August 19, 2025, during a meeting between Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Indian National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, TYC demanded the resolution of the Tibetan issue for lasting peace between India and China.
