Dharamshala — Tibetan Youth Congress unequivocally condemned the visit of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi to India for BRIC Summit and rejected any attempt by the so-called PRC to portray itself as a responsible global power while it continues its illegal occupation and colonial rule over Tibet. They said," Beijing has intensified its policies of forced assimilation, criminalized peaceful expressions of Tibetan national identity, and sought to eliminate the distinct religious, linguistic, and cultural heritage of the Tibetan people."
Tsering Choepel, President of Tibetan Youth Congress (TYC), Tenzin Lobsang, General secretary of TYC and Tsamchoe,organisational/International Secretary of TYC held a press conference at TYC office, Dharamshala, on June 21,2026. They strongly condemned the visit of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi to India for BRIC Summit from June 22 to 23, 2026. FM Wang yi visit India to discuss on BRICS Summit, and to talk India-China relationship.
The Tibetan Youth Congress said, "we warmly congratulates the Republic of India on successfully hosting the BRICS Summit and applauds India's emergence as a leading global power whose principled leadership and diplomatic engagement continue to play an increasingly significant role in addressing international challenges and shaping the global order.
"The Tibetan Youth Congress (TYC) unequivocally condemns the visit of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi to India and rejects any attempt by the so-called People's Republic of China to portray itself as a responsible global power while it continues its illegal occupation and colonial rule over Tibet.
"For more than seven decades, the Chinese Communist Party has subjected Tibet to military occupation, political repression, demographic engineering, cultural eradication, and systematic violations of fundamental human rights. Beijing has intensified its policies of forced assimilation, criminalized peaceful expressions of Tibetan national identity, and sought to eliminate the distinct religious, linguistic, and cultural heritage of the Tibetan people.
"The so-called Chinese government continues to deny the Tibetan people their inherent and inalienable right to self-determination as enshrined in international law and the principles of the United Nations Charter. The ongoing policies in Tibet including the coercive separation of Tibetan children into colonial boarding schools, the destruction of Tibetan religious institutions, the surveillance state imposed across Tibet, and the exploitation of Tibet's natural resources constitute a grave assault on the collective rights and dignity of the Tibetan nation.
"The Tibetan Youth Congress is particularly alarmed by Beijing's implementation of the so-called "Ethnic Unity Law", another instrument of state-led assimilation aimed at accelerating the Sinicization of non-Chinese peoples under the guise of promoting national unity. This legislation seeks to institutionalize the erasure of distinct national identities and further tighten the Chinese Communist Party's control over Tibet, East Turkestan, Southern Mongolia, and other occupied territories. For Tibetans, this law represents an intensified campaign to undermine our language, culture, religion, and national consciousness.
"The Tibetan Youth Congress firmly believes that the question of Tibet remains one of the world's longest unresolved cases of occupation and decolonization. No amount of economic power, diplomatic influence, or political propaganda can legitimize China's unlawful domination of Tibet or erase the historical truth that Tibet was an independent nation.
"As Chinese officials visits in India under the banner of international cooperation, we remind the global community that genuine peace, stability, and security in Asia cannot be achieved while Tibet remains under occupation. The continued occupation of Tibet has transformed the Tibetan Plateau into one of the most heavily militarized regions in the world and poses direct implications for regional security, environmental sustainability, and the rights of millions of people dependent on Tibet's rivers and ecosystems.
"As reports indicate that Chinese and Indian officials will once again discuss the so-called "border issue," the Tibetan Youth Congress reiterates an undeniable historical and geopolitical reality: the Sino-Indian border dispute is fundamentally a consequence of China's occupation of Tibet. Prior to the military invasion and occupation of Tibet from 1950-59, India and Tibet shared a long and peaceful border. The current tensions and disputes emerged only after the People's Republic of China forcefully occupied Tibet and replaced Tibet as India's northern neighbour.
"Therefore, any attempt to seek a lasting resolution to the "Sino-Indian" border dispute while ignoring the Tibet issue merely addresses the symptoms rather than the root cause. There can be no permanent, just, and sustainable resolution to the so-called India-China border dispute until the question of Tibet is resolved and the Tibetan people are able to exercise their right to determine their own political future in a free Tibet.
"The Tibetan Youth Congress calls upon the Government of India, democratic nations, and all defenders of freedom and justice to hold the so-called People's Republic of China accountable for its ongoing human rights violations and its policies of cultural and political repression in Tibet. We urge world leaders not to sacrifice principles of justice and human rights at the altar of economic and strategic interests.
"We further call upon international communities to stand with our struggle and resolutely reaffirm the Tibetan people's inalienable right to self-determination and our collective aspiration for a free and independent Tibet, and to ensure that the question of Tibet and the legitimate political aspirations of the Tibetan people are not marginalized or ignored in international diplomacy.
"The Tibet issue is not merely a human rights issue; it is a matter of international peace, security, and decolonization. The occupation of Tibet created the Sino-Indian border dispute, and only a free Tibet can provide the foundation for a durable and peaceful resolution," TYC concluded their statement.
