London — The Swedish Parliamentary Friendship Group for Tibet proposes three different parliamentary motions on Tibet in the Swedish Parliament recently and their motions including, the reincarnation of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Sweden’s government to raise with China the violations of human rights in Tibet, forced boarding schools, and resuming dialogue with Tibetan representatives; and Sweden’s government to work at the EU level to support the appointment of an EU special coordinator for Tibet.
According to the Office of Tibet in London, the Swedish Parliamentary Friendship Group for Tibet presents three different parliamentary motions on Tibet to the Swedish Parliament recently. The motions–1529, 2207 and 2402 are quite unprecedented and are representative of the better understanding and support for Tibet in Sweden.
These three motions concern the following issues: first, the reincarnation of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama; second, the need for the Swedish government to raise with China the human rights violations in Tibet, the forced boarding schools and the resumption of dialogue with Tibetan representatives; and third, the need for the Swedish government to work at EU level for the appointment of an EU special coordinator for Tibet.

Eleven parliamentarians from the Swedish Parliamentary Friendship Group for Tibet, led by Chair Margareta Cederfelt, were guests of honour at the celebration of Tibetan Democracy Day on September 2, 2023 in Dharamshala, India, where they also met His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
Sikyong Penpa Tsering of CTA, visited to Sweden in October 2022, organised by the Office of Tibet London, coincided with the appointment of Sweden’s new Prime Minister and the renewal of the Tibet friendship group in the new parliament. A delegation of three Tibetan Parliamentarians also visited Sweden in November 2022, organised by the International Campaign for Tibet.
