Dharamshala, India — Chinese authorities are still detaining three Tibetan monks from Wonpo Village, Sershul County, Dzachuka, eastern Tibet, who were detained in September on suspicion of possessing photos of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and having ties outside Tibet, and the rest of the Tibetans detained for the same reasons have now been released.
According to a reliable source, Chinese authorities still detaining three Tibetan monks from Wonpo Village, Sershul County, Dzachuka, eastern Tibet, who were detained with other five Tibetans on September 3,2021, on suspicion of possessing photos of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and having ties outside Tibet, and the rest of the Tibetans detained for the same reasons have now been released.
“During their detention, they were beaten and given political education, including patriotism, and taught the Chinese national anthem. They also had to promise not to do anything related to "secession" of the country,” the source said.
“Local Communist authorities in Wonpo town also warned the local Tibetans not to form any groups on social media (WeChat) or allow the formation of any organizations or groups such as environmental protection and mother tongue protection groups, which means that their previous mother language protection group is not allowed to continue to exist, which is a great loss to the local Tibetans as this group taught the local Tibetans the Tibetan language and most of them can now read and write,” the source added.
From August 22 to 29, 2021, Chinese authorities detained 113 Tibetans in Wonpo Village for photographs of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and communication with Tibetans in exile. On September 3, 2021, Chinese authorities again arrested eight Tibetans from Wonpo Village for teaching the Tibetan language to local Tibetans, thus, from August 23 to September 3, 2021, Chinese authorities arrested a total of 121 Tibetans from Sershul County, Dzachuka, Eastern Tibet.
