New York, USA — “The Chinese regime is solely responsible for thousands of deaths and mass imprisonments in Tibet. China is a country where genocide and forced sterilization are occurring all the time. As a result, China does not deserve to host the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics. The International Olympic Committee must immediately revoke Beijing's right to host the Games,” said Dechen Sangpo, Vice President of Regional Chushi Gangdruk.

Activists from Tibet, Taiwan, Tibet, East Turkestan, China, Hong Kong, and Southern Mongolia protested outside Mars' corporate headquarters and the Chinese Consulate in New York City and called for a boycott of the 2022 Winter Olympics. The NYC Global Day of Action protests were organized by RTYC NYNJ, Dokham Chushi Gangdruk, and Students for a Free Tibet.

On June 23, 2021, Tibetans and human rights activists demonstrated their discontent with Beijing 2022 and called for its boycott in NYC, first, in front of Mars Incorporated Headquarters, which is an Olympic sponsor, and later at the Chinese consulate as a part of Global Day of Action.

To mark International Olympic Day 2021, the first NoBeijing2022 Global Day of Action, thousands of protesters around the world, from New Zealand to Canada, from Japan to Argentina, from Australia to Sweden, stood together to make the case that China should not be allowed to host the 2022 Beijing Olympics in hopes of whitewashing its criminal image. China has been committing genocide against the Uighurs, repressing Tibetans, Southern Mongolians, Hong Kongers, and bullying Taiwanese politically.

The activists staged a "die-in" demonstration outside the Mars headquarters, which was also the first protest against Mars' partnership with the International Olympic Committee (IOC). And later, at the Chinese Consulate, the activists voiced against the “Genocide Olympics” and demanded the international community boycott the event.

"We have no choice but to call for a boycott of Beijing 2022 because we are witnessing one of the worst human rights crises of our time and the International Olympic Committee has completely failed to respond. How can we stand aside and allow China to parade its propaganda in front of the world while behind the pomp and ceremony there is a genocide being carried out? Surely that is a red line that we all know must not be crossed," said Pema Doma, Campaigns Director of Students for a Free Tibet.

“The Chinese regime is solely responsible for thousands of deaths and mass imprisonments in Tibet. China is a country where genocide and forced-sterilization are occurring all the time. As a result, China does not deserve to host the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics. The International Olympic Committee must immediately revoke Beijing's right to host the Games.” Claimed Dechen Sangpo, Vice President of Regional Chushi Gangdruk

"Today's die-in in front of the Mars Headquarters was performed to demonstrate that any corporation which sponsors the Beijing Olympics is complicit in Tibet's occupation and the Uyghur genocide. It is unconscionable that any American corporation would be willing to turn a blind eye to the suffering of millions of people for the sake of profit," said Tash Lamsang, President of the Regional Tibetan Youth Congress New York-New Jersey (RTYC NYNJ).
