Dharamshala – Tibetans and Tibet supporters marched from Mcleod Ganj to Kacheri in Dharamshala, to commemorate the 64th anniversary of the Tibetan National Uprising on March 10, 2023. They call on China to end the torture in Tibet and to get out of Tibet immediately.
Tibetans and Tibet supporters from around the world gathered in different cities, including Dharamshala, Delhi, Sydney, Taipei, Paris, London, Zurich, Rome, New York, and Toronto etc, on March 10, 2023, to commemorate the 64th anniversary of the Tibetan National Uprising. The protestors called on China to end the tortures and genocide in Tibet, the illegal occupation of Tibet, release of Tibetan political prisoners and demand human rights for Tibetans inside the Tibet.
Peace march from Mcleod Ganj to Kacheri in Dharamshala, organised by the Tibetan Youth Congress, Tibetan Women's Association, Tibetan National Democratic Party and Students for a Free Tibet - India.
While marching, they raised the following slogans: "Free Tibet, China, get out of Tibet", "Stop torture and genocide in Tibet", “Shame on China,” “Coronavirus made in China,” “China lies, people die,” "Release the Panchen Lama", "Tibetans want to be free from China", "World Leaders, support Tibet", “UNO, speak for Tibet”.
A statement of the organisation said, “Today on this commemoration of the 64th anniversary of the Tibetan National Uprising day, Tibetans across the world are evoking and commemorating the historically unforgettable day.”
“In 1949, when the red Chinese army had invaded Tibet and fabricated a grim insecurity threat to the 14th Dalai Lama, the entire Tibetan situation was accelerated to a critical stage on the 10th of March 1959. As a result, Tibetans from all three traditional regions of Tibet stood united, took full responsibility, and resisted the Chinese military retaliation and their subjugated allegation over Tibet. Today we should be proud of our persistent resilience and unwavering Tibetan spirit,” the statement added.
“Under the arbitrary conspiracy with the massive crackdown by the Chinese Communist Regime, 169 Tibetans have self-immolated themselves for the just cause of Tibet, and Tibetans have been taking out processions and the worldwide protests. Many well-known Tibetan scholars, poets, writers, educationists, and spiritual leaders are being imprisoned and tortured by the Chinese Communist Regime,” they said.
“Under the Chinese colonial education system, over one million Tibetan children have been separated from their families and forcefully placed into Chinese state-run colonial boarding schools. It is a genocidal policy to indoctrinate Tibetan children from their cultural roots: the Tibetan language, Tibetan religion and the cultural heritage,” the activists said.
“And under the Chinese massive surveillance system, they have been taking their hands-on mass collection of Tibetan DNA samples including children as young as five. We believe this is their newest attack on Tibetan identity, massive surveillance on individual privacies, and freedom of movement inside Tibet. Therefore, Today, Tibetan Youth Congress would like to urge both individual Tibetans and organizations to take collective actions against China's massive surveillance system,” they added.
“In the year 2022, thousands of Chinese citizens, within China itself have demonstrated the White Paper Revolution against the dictatorship system of the Chinese Communist Regime, and this is an opportune moment that we Tibetans also should be more committed to our struggle than ever before and stand united with Tibetan brothers and sisters inside Tibet,” the activists said.
