Activists in Canada began a peace rally to highlight China's human rights abuses in Tibet

Ottawa — The 4th Peace Rally Marathon for Tibet kicked off on October 2, 2023 in front of the Chinese Embassy in Ottawa, Canada. This is a week-long marathon during which activists will run 450 km to raise public awareness of China's human rights violations in Tibet and call on China to release the 11th Panchen Lama of Tibet and all political prisoners in Tibet.

The 4th Peace Rally Marathon for Tibet began on October 2, 2023 in front of the Chinese Embassy in Ottawa, Canada. Participants will cover a total of 450 km in one week, from the Chinese Embassy in Ottawa to the Chinese Consulate in Toronto. The aim is to raise public awareness of China's human rights violations in Tibet and the Tibet issue by interacting with people along the route. The marathon will end on October 9, 2023.

The first day of the marathon ended on the evening of October 2, 2023, having covered 65 km. Along the way, the runners met and interacted with people, including young schoolchildren, and raised public awareness of the plight of Tibet under the CCP dictatorship.

The activists' have raised three demands to China with an appeal to the Canadian government and international communities to:

• Support for the Sino-Tibetan dialogue,
• Release of the 11th Panchen Lama and all political prisoners in Tibet, and
• Ensure the return of His Holiness the Dalai lama to Tibet

The runners carried photos of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Tibetan and Canadian flags, and banners reading: "China: don't touch Tibetan DNA", "Long live His Holiness the Dalai Lama", "China: don't touch Tibetan DNA", "Long live His Holiness the Dalai Lama" and the three demands in writing.

This is their fourth Peace Rally Marathon for Tibet. It is a voluntary campaign initiated by Pema Kunga, Tenzin Shedup, and Dechen Wangdi, with support of Tibetan residents of Toronto, Canada. This year runners including Pema Kunga, Tenzin Shedup, Dechen Wangdi, Dawa Dayab, Kunsang Dechen, Dawa Sangpo and Kalden Wangchuk.

The Tibetan activists also thanked President Choesang and members of the Ottawa Tibetan Community Association, Sherap Therchin, Chair of Canada Tibet Committee and Sunny Sonam, President of RTYC Toronto for the support and encouragement.
