tibet-shilong-2012Dharamshala- On 6 November the Shillong Tibetan Youth Community and Regional Tibetan Women’s Association announced a Peace March from Shillong to Guwahati from 7-10 of December. The march is in solidarity with the 91 monks, nuns, mothers, students, artists, writers, farmers, and nomads who have self-immolated in hopes of gaining attention towards China’s oppressive policies in Tibet.

In addition to the Peace March, the groups have outlined clear conditions that China must meet in order to bring an end to the wave of self-immolations. These conditions included; the release of all political prisoners, unrestricted press and media in Tibet, meaningful dialogue with the CTA, the return of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, and basic human rights to Tibetans.

The UN was also given conditions to help stop the self-immolations; which included pressuring Beijing to lift ‘Undeclared Martial Law’ and standing on its terms to deal with the denial of human rights in Tibet.
