New York — Tibetan and American activists protested against the visit of Chinese Vice-President Han Zheng to New York for attending the United Nations General Assembly. The activists declared Han Zheng: With Tibetan blood on your hands, you are not welcome here. They also called on China to shut down the colonial boarding school where more than a million Tibetan children are separated from their families.

Tibetan-American activists from Students for a Free Tibet staged a protest outside UN headquarters in New York on September 20, 2023, to protest the presence of Chinese Vice-President Han Zheng at the UN General Assembly. They said: "Han Zheng represents the colonial regime that seeks legitimacy at the UN by spreading CCP propaganda while actively committing genocide in Tibet".

‘The leader of CCP is at the United Nations in New York and meeting world leaders to spread lies and propaganda about Tibet, but we will make sure that the world knows that the Chinese government has ripped one million Tibetan children from their families, we will not allow China to turn the United Nations into another wings of its transnational propaganda apparatus,’ the activists said.

"We call for the shutdown of the colonial boarding school with over a million Tibetan children separated from their families. Han Zheng: With Tibetan blood on your hands - you are not welcome here," they added.

Tibetan activist Chime Lhamo said, "Chinese Vice-President Han Zheng is attending the United Nations General Assembly in New York, while the Chinese government is implementing repressive policies against the Tibetan people and systematically trying to eliminate Tibetan identity. Tibetan children are aged between 4 and 18, and 80% of Tibetan students are forcibly placed in Chinese boarding schools".

"We must protest against any visit by Chinese leaders to a free country, because they are implementing oppressive policies against Tibetans inside Tibet. We must make the international community aware of the true policies or true colour of the Chinese Communist Party by showing the truth", she added.

The SFT also produced a massive projection, which lit up the skyline of New York, reading: "Han Zheng and China are committing genocide in Tibet, a million Tibetan children stolen from their families, United Nations, don't let China commit genocide in Tibet, and abolish colonial boarding schools in Tibet.”
