Tibetans in New York marked the 59th anniversary of commemoration of Tibetan National Uprising Day infront of the UN Building on 10 March.

The commemoration began with a peaceful march from Cadman Plaza, Brooklyn to UN Plaza, where the group sang Tibetan national anthem and the song of uprising.

The main function was marked by speeches and statements delivered by Representative Ngodup Tsering, Office of Tibet, Washington DC, Norbu Tsering, Representative of Tibetan Community of New York and New Jersey, Member of Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile, Dorjee Tseten, Ho Pin, Chinese expert, Representatives of Regional Tibetan Women’s Association of New York & New Jersey, Dotoe and Utsang Cholka, North America Dhomey Association.

In his speech, Representative Ngodup Tsering reiterated His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s call for unity of the three Tibetan provinces and among the various schools of Tibetan Buddhism during the recent Monlam Chenmo teaching in Dharamshala.

“Other spiritual leaders including Sakya Gongma Rinpoche, Gyalwa Karmapa and Kirti Rinpoche have all, in recent times, highlighted the importance of Tibetan unity and it is upon each one of us to adhere to these advices and act accordingly,” he said.

Representative Tsering also read out the statement of President Dr Lobsang Sangay on the ocassion.
