His Holiness the Dalai Lama of Tibet congratulates Morrison on victory

Dharamshala, India — The spiritual leader of Tibet, His Holiness the Dalai Lama wrote a letter to Scott Morrison, Prime Minister of Australia, congratulating on his Coalition Party’s victory in Australia’s parliamentary elections.

“Over the last four decades, I have travelled the length and breadth of Australia and have been deeply touched by the openness and warmth of people from all walks of life," His Holines the Dalai lama wrote.

The Nobel Peace Prize laureate added in his letter of congratulation: "I have also been encouraged by their enthusiasm and interest in my effort to promote a sense of oneness of humanity and closer inter-religious harmony".

“I take this opportunity to express my deep gratitude to the Australian people for their interest and concern for the present situation of the Tibetan people,” His Holiness the Dalai Lama said.

The spiritual leader of Tibet sends best wishes to Mr Morrison for success in meeting the challenges that lie ahead in fulfilling Australians’ hopes and aspirations.

Since his surprise Saturday night victory, Mr Morrison has received congratulatory phone calls from UK Prime Minister Theresa May, New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.

He also received messages of congratulations from French President Emmanuel Macron, Papua New Guinea's Peter O'Neill and the United Nations Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres.

Many other Pacific leaders have calso ongratulated Morrison on his surprise election victory but have urged him to do more to fight the climate crisis, which poses an existential threat to the region.
